Auto Translator for X (Twitter) automatically translates visible public posts on X (Twitter) into the language selected by the user.
The extension reads visible public post text on x.com and twitter.com only as needed to provide its translation feature.
The extension is designed not to process X Direct Messages. X message routes and known Direct Message containers are explicitly excluded.
Users can choose Chrome's built-in Translator API or TranslateGemma 12B through a separately installed Ollama application. Chrome translation runs locally after the required language model is available. In Ollama mode, the extension sends public post text and source/target languages to http://127.0.0.1:11434 on the user's own computer and receives the translated text. The setup page also checks that local service for installed models. No cloud inference endpoint is used.
The extension does not send public post text to the extension developer, a developer-operated server, or a cloud translation API.
Chrome may download language models required by its built-in Translator API. These models are provided and managed by Chrome. For Ollama mode, users download TranslateGemma through Ollama. Initial downloads require internet access and are handled by Chrome or Ollama, not by an extension-operated download service.
The extension uses Chrome's local extension storage to save preferences such as whether automatic translation is enabled, the selected target language, the translation engine, and local translation language-pair readiness. Translations are cached in memory while the page is open; the extension does not maintain a persistent translation history.
The extension does not contain advertising, analytics, telemetry, or tracking.
The extension does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, authentication credentials, financial information, location information, or other personally identifiable information.
The extension does not sell user data and does not transfer public post text to the extension developer or to a cloud translation service. Local Ollama requests remain on the user's computer.
